Church Steeple

Here is the church… Here is the steeple…. Open the doors… And let all the people…
…respond to the things that break the heart of our God.
…invest in ways that make a difference in a person’s life.
…participant in something bigger than ourselves.
…represent the grace of God in tangible ways out in our community.
…become a champion for the marginalized, the overlooked, the least among us.

We want to respond to the things that break the heart of our God.
We want to invest in ways that make a difference in a person’s life.
We want to participant in something bigger than ourselves.
We want to represent the grace of God in tangible ways out in our community.
We want to become a champion for the marginalized, the overlooked, the least among us.

Our wants, I assume, are the wants of all local Christian churches in the Diablo Valley of Contra Costa County. And yet the needs and opportunities are so many and vast in our communities. How does a church discern where to focus their energies to serve?

We have journeyed through three movements to recognize where to place our resources. First, we have looked at our recent past and current passions for caring for groups of people. Secondly, we have intentionally exposed ourselves to the needs and challenges of our community. And thirdly, we have prayed, looking for where we believe God is working so we can partner with what he is already doing.

Our journey has aligned us with the work of the Luxi House. It has become a rich experience for us to walk with Pastor Steve Willhite’s dream, to get a little dirty with building and grounds work projects, to adopt a room to furnish and decorate and now to make monthly donations to support the work. We have enjoyed each step of the way.

Luxi House will not be able to meet the enormous need of all young pregnant women who have few options, but it will make a huge difference for many. Creating a welcoming environment for these women to prepare for the birth of their child, learn life skills and plan for their future is invaluable!

As the pastor of The Creek Covenant Church, I can say that it has been a privilege to partner with a work that reflects the heart of God to serve our community in this way. Our investment will only grow deeper and richer as the doors of Luxi House open. I hope you will be inspired to join the team!
